Oxylipins

Oxylipins are a group of substances that include oxidation products of polyunsaturated fatty acids with oxygen and substances derived from these primary oxidation products. Oxylipins often have intra- or intercellular signaling functions in plants , animals and microorganisms . In plants in particular, oxylipins play a major role as signals in development processes , stress responses and the defense against pathogens . The plant hormone jasmonic acid belongs to this class of substances.
