Picaro
Picaro (stress on the first syllable) is a term from Spanish and means something like " rascal " or " crook ". In the 17th century, the Spanish word pícaro was also translated with Landstörzer (there was also the spelling Landstörtzer ), whereby a Landstörzer corresponds more to a tramp .
A whole genre of novels, the novela picaresca , revolves around the figure of the pícaro in Spanish literature , which has offshoots in other European countries. In German, the terms picarro-novel or picaresque novel became common, although it should be noted that the word rogue was previously understood as pícaro in a negative sense.
