POSH

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term POSH or POSH colloquially referred to both fine / wealthy people or wealth in general, but also as an adjective fine or chic restaurants or objects.

The meaning is derived (as reproduced in some sources) from the abbreviation "POSH" for Port Out Starboard Home used on passenger ships of the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company (P&O) on first-class travel tickets . This with an additional mite meant to be paid travel Extra that on the route across the Indian Ocean persons traveling in such a proceeding (English out ), so eastward to the port side (Engl. Port ) and return trips (Engl. Home ), so westward to starboard (engl. starboard ) lying cabins were placed in order not to expose each of the burning sun. A program for repeat travelers by the shipping company P&O was given the name "POSH Club" (today Portunus Club). According to other sources, it is an acronym to which the meaning of the abbreviation was later adapted.
