The PLZ-07 (other designation: Type 07 ) is a Chinese self-propelled howitzer manufactured by the armaments company Norinco .

Development history

PLZ-07 in 2009 at the first public presentation

The People's Liberation Army had had various models with 122 mm guns in service since the 1970s, but these no longer met the army's requirements in terms of firepower and mobility. The models of the types Type 89 , Type 85 and Type 70 / 70-1 are to be withdrawn in the course of the introduction of the PLZ-07. The postal code 07 has been in the armed forces since 2007, and in 2009, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Liberation Army, it was shown to the public for the first time at a military parade. The PLZ-07 self-propelled howitzer was developed entirely by the Chinese armaments company Norinco and has not yet been exported.

Armament and technology

The armament consists of a 122 mm howitzer type PL-96 with 32 caliber lengths. The maximum rate of fire is six to eight shots per minute. In the event of a longer fire fight, however, the rate of fire is minimized by the thermal load on the pipe. The maximum range of the weapon system is 18 km with standard bullets and up to 27 km with extended range ERFB-BB-RA bullets. On the roof of the tower there is also a 12.7mm W85 / QJC-88 anti-aircraft machine gun operated by the commander. Six smoke capsules are mounted on the tower front on each side of the main cannon. The elevation range of the weapon is −3 ° to + 70 °. During the march, the pipe is fixed in a lashing fork. The PLZ-07 uses the chassis of the ZBD-04 armored personnel carrier . The 544 hp engine is on the right front and the driver's cab is on the left front. The crew can enter and exit the vehicle via two hatches (“roof”) and a door in the rear of the tub, the driver has his own hatch available.
