Lists on the subject

The PMA-1 or PMA-1A (Protivpešadijska Mina Antimagnetna - 1 (A)) is an anti-personnel mine manufactured in ex-Yugoslavia that was often used during the Yugoslav wars. It is the forerunner of the PMA-2 and is deceptively similar to the Israeli No. 4 .

It is estimated that a large number of mines of this model made their way to other countries after the end of the war.

description

The housing of the PMA-1 is made of light green plastic and has a rectangular shape. The upper half has four reinforcements that are slightly offset from the edge and two holes in the edge to accommodate the hinge pin. On the inside there is a pressure piece for the chemical detonator of type UPMAH-1, in the lower part of the mine there is space for the explosive device (200 g TNT block), a bearing shell for the detonator and two holes for drainage. The PMA-1 is very similar to the Israeli anti-personnel mine No 4 , but in contrast to the PMA it has a detonating pin protruding from the side.

function

If more than three kilograms of pressure are exerted on the upper part of the mine body, the front capsule of the detonator is crushed. The pressure on the initial charge creates a chemical reaction that generates heat. This heat initiates the detonator, which in turn initiates the explosive charge.

commitment

The PMA-1 was introduced and used in the former Yugoslavia . The leads are delivered in wooden boxes of 100 pieces, the 100 detonators are packed separately. A pegging wire in the area of the ignition bearing keeps the mine in a safe condition until it is finally laid. The holes for drainage can also be used to secure a recovery lock.

eviction

After opening the mine cover, the explosive device with detonator is removed from the plastic body and the detonator is unscrewed. If the mine is fitted with a safety device or otherwise manipulated, a non-contact detonation takes place.

Due to its low metal content, the PMA-1 can hardly be located with conventional metal detectors.
