PNMA family

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The PNMA family is a family of proteins . The abbreviation “PNMA” stands for paraneoplastic antigen Ma .

classification

Name of the gene Name of the protein chromosome
PNMA1 Paraneoplastic antigen Ma1 14q24.3
PNMA2 Paraneoplastic antigen Ma2 8p21.1
PNMA3 Paraneoplastic antigen Ma3 Xq28
PNMA4 (MOAP1) Paraneoplastic antigen Ma4 (modulator of apoptosis 1) 14q32.12
PNMA5 Paraneoplastic antigen Ma5 Xq28
PNMA6A Paraneoplastic antigen-like protein 6A Xq28
PNMA6B Paraneoplastic antigen-like protein 6B Xq28
PNMA6C Paraneoplastic antigen-like protein 6C Xq28
PNMA6D Paraneoplastic antigen-like protein 6D Xq28
PNMAL1 PNMA-like protein 19q13.32
PNMAL2 PNMA-like protein 19q13.32

properties

The function of the PNMA proteins is still largely unknown with one exception. PNMA4 (MOAP1) can induce programmed cell death (apoptosis) in connection with the protein Bax . Because of the homologies, a similar function is ascribed to the other members of the family. Some paraneoplastic syndromes are associated with antibodies directed against certain PNMA proteins. In anti-Ma2-associated encephalitis , for example, these are antibodies against PNMA2 .
