PNMA family
The PNMA family is a family of proteins . The abbreviation “PNMA” stands for paraneoplastic antigen Ma .

PNMA6C | Paraneoplastic antigen-like protein 6C | Xq28 |
PNMA6D | Paraneoplastic antigen-like protein 6D | Xq28 |
PNMAL1 | PNMA-like protein | 19q13.32 |
PNMAL2 | PNMA-like protein | 19q13.32 |
properties
The function of the PNMA proteins is still largely unknown with one exception. PNMA4 (MOAP1) can induce programmed cell death (apoptosis) in connection with the protein Bax . Because of the homologies, a similar function is ascribed to the other members of the family. Some paraneoplastic syndromes are associated with antibodies directed against certain PNMA proteins. In anti-Ma2-associated encephalitis , for example, these are antibodies against PNMA2 .
