PREDA (foundation)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

PREDA (Peoples Recovery, Empowerment and Development Assistance Foundation) is a foundation based in Olongapo ( Philippines ) that has set itself the task of supporting needy, especially sexually exploited children and young people in the Philippines. It was founded in 1974 by Shay Cullen , Alex Corpus Hermoso and Merly Ramirez Hermoso.

aims

The goals of the foundation are just laws and their application that strengthen the poor and protect their rights. Furthermore, the weak and defenseless, especially children and women, who are exploited through degrading work, especially prostitution, should be protected. They want to come to the aid of the sexually abused and alleviate poverty and exploitation through fair trade .

The foundation tries to convince foreign governments to prosecute nationals who abuse children abroad. So far, the Australian, British, German, Japanese, Norwegian, Swedish and US governments have passed such laws. Cooperation with German institutions with similar goals is important for the foundation in order to be able to approach the goals set in an international context.

Projects

The PREDA aid program is the contact point for girls who have been freed from prostitution and the hands of pedosexual perpetrators. Cullen attracted international attention in 1996 when he brought a German perpetrator to court and cared for his victims, two Filipino girls, with psychological and pastoral care.

The second focus of PREDA is helping so-called prison children. Cullen and his team have succeeded in getting a large number of boys aged 15 and younger who are locked up in detention centers in inhumane conditions to be released from prisons. These minors then have a future opportunity in their own PREDA house, in which around 35 boys live and are cared for.

Cullen's aid program is supported by international organizations, including the Catholic aid organization missio in Aachen. According to the aid organization, the partnership between missio and PREDA started in the 1990s with campaigns against sex tourism and child prostitution. Since then, numerous aid programs have been funded with donations from Germany. Receipt:
