PSB (file format)
PSB , Photoshop Big (referred to in German as large document format ), is the extension of the proprietary PSD file format from Adobe Photoshop , which is supported from the Photoshop CS version. This format is mainly used within the program, e.g. a. "Smart Objects" are made available for editing as temporary PSB files.

PSB is a special format for very large documents with a maximum height and width of 300,000 pixels each (equivalent to 90 gigapixels) that removes the data limit of 2 gigabytes (PC and Mac) for PSD files. Such amounts of data occur primarily in devices and cameras with very high resolution or color depth , such as those used in satellite technology. The large document format is also used for rendering three-dimensional scenes .
All Photoshop features such as mask effects, layers, alpha channels, etc. are also supported in PSB format.
