PUSPANITA is the acronym of Persatuan Suri dan Anggota Wanita Perkhidmatan Awam Malaysia (official English name: Wives of Civil Servants and Women Civil Servants Association ) and denotes an association of civil servants and the wives of civil servants in the Malaysian civil service.

history

The foundation goes back to an idea of ​​the then Minister of Education Mahathir bin Mohamad . Together with his wife Siti Hasmah, he was cared for by the local state women's organization Dharma Wanita Persatuan Pusat while on vacation in Indonesia . He was so impressed by the warm welcome and hospitality of the organization that he suggested to his wife, Siti Hasmah, to set up a similar organization in Malaysia after returning from vacation.

The association officially started its work as a national organization on March 1, 1983 with Zawiah Hj Yacob as managing director. The chairmen of PUSPANITA are called Yang Di Pertua PUSPANITA . The following persons held this office from 1983 until today:

aims

The women's organization is dedicated to the promotion of knowledge and skills as well as the personal development of its female members in areas such as consumer protection, family planning, entrepreneurship, sport and health, personal development, etc. In addition, PUSPANITA provides financial aid for destitute students at selected institutes of tertiary education. With PUSPANITA PUSPADARA, the organization is also involved in cancer research.

The core objectives formulated by the organization are

  • Improving the resilience and competence of women in building the Malaysian state in the context of the new economy and globalization
  • Supporting the image and performance of the public service with a view to implementing government policies
  • Forming and strengthening positive values ​​to support personal development and competence building. Maintain close relationships with other women on a national and international level
  • Promoting harmony in family relationships and overcoming social grievances.

Organizational structure

According to the statutes of the organization, the wife of the Malaysian Prime Minister is automatically the patron of PUSPANITA. The Chief Secretary to the Government acts as an advisor, while his wife chairs the organization and is given the title of Yang Di Pertua . The statutes also provide for constellations for the formation of local groups. B. Article 19.3.2 that when a PUSPANITA group is set up within a district administration, the wife of the district officer is chaired.

distribution

The organization maintains groups in all ministries and agencies and is represented in all states; so were z. B. 2011 in the state of Sabah registered 27 groups with 5,745 members. Today more than 80,000 Malaysian women are organized within PUSPANITA.
