Paal (unit)

Paal was a measure of length in Batavia (now Jakarta ), the former Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia ), and was used as a measure of the route. It was also the basis for the area measure of the same name.

  • Java : 1 Paal = 4800 Voet = 1506.9432 meters
  • Sumatra : 1 Paal = 1883.682 meters
    • Sumatra: 1 square Paal = 3.54620 square kilometers
    • Sumatra: 59.09 Paal = 1 equatorial degree
