The package knot is a knot for connecting two ropes in mountain sports .

application

The German Alpine Club lists this knot for connecting two ropes for abseiling . It has a significantly higher knot strength than the sack stitch , but is a little more difficult to knot and has a more complex knot pattern.

Knotting with one strand

Knot

You take both ropes and wind the ends three turns around the standing part. Then the ends are put through the eyes created in this way and pulled tight.

Alternatives

Most of the time, climbers use the sack stitch when rappelling because it's easier to control. A figure-of-eight knot is easier to loosen after a heavier load, but the shape is larger and the risk of the knot getting stuck in crevices increases. In the early days of alpinism , mountaineers used the spar prick for a variety of purposes.

A very durable connection that can also be easily loosened is the Zeppelinstek .
