Palácio do Manteigueiro

The Palácio do Manteigueiro is a former noble palace in the municipality of Misericórdia in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon . The address is Rua da Emenda, 87-91; Rua da Horta Sêca, 13-19

It was built in 1787 according to plans by the architect Manuel Caetano de Sousa . The client was the merchant Domingos Mendes Dias (1755? –1804), who had become one of the richest men in town as a wholesaler for butter.

After his death - he was stabbed by robbers - the building served as a residence for various politicians and intellectuals, including Andoche Junot . Today (2015) it houses the Portuguese Ministry of Energy (Ministério da Energia).
