The Palacio Duhau - Park Hyatt Buenos Aires is a 5-star hotel in the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires . It is located on Avenida Alvear 1661 in the Recoleta district .

overview

Alejandro Hume, an Argentinian of British descent who had made his fortune by building railways, owned a piece of land on what is now Avenida Alvear, for which he had a house designed by the architect Carlos Ryder. Just a short time before, Mayor Torcuato de Alvear had the street known until then as Camino Bella Vista widened and lengthened. The house was completed in 1890, and in 1913 the family hired the landscape architect Carlos Thays to design the garden behind the house.

In the 1920s the property was sold to the Duhau family. The Duhaus, well-known landowners, commissioned the architect León Dourge to build a domicile for them in the vicinity of the Hume House. Inspired by the Château du Marais in the Paris area, Dourge designed a neoclassical style palacio and a guest house, both of which were completed in 1932. At some point, however, the Duhau siblings moved to the Hume House, and the last of them died in 1976. The Palacio itself stood empty until 2002 when the local building contractor Juan Scalesciani bought the entire property and entered into a cooperation with the Hyatt Group. They planned a new hotel for the location to replace the hotel in the Retiro district , which was sold to the Four Seasons hotel chain in 2002 .

After investing US $ 74 million and numerous privacy delays with the neighboring Vatican embassy , the Palacio Duhau - Park Hyatt Buenos Aires opened on July 12, 2006. The Palacio itself, in which many original details have been preserved, has 11 rooms and 12 suites. The new extension, located at the eastern end of the garden, has 115 rooms and 27 suites.
