The Palazzo Clerici in Milan is the former city ​​palace of the Milanese Clerici family, who became rich through the silk trade, at the "Contrada del prestino dei Bossi".

history

The building was erected in the 17th century and belonged to the Visconti di Somma Lombardo family. She sold the house to Antonio Giorgio Clerici, a marshal of Empress Maria Theresa , who extensively rebuilt it from 1736 and had Giovanni Battista Tiepolo carry out the famous ceiling paintings in 1741 . The painting on the vaulted ceiling of a 22 meter long hall shows the sun chariot ascending to the heaven of the gods, surrounded by sea creatures and allegories of continents and the arts. Tiepolo's atmospheric light and color art is at the height of the Venetian Rococo.
