Palazzo Gambirasi

The Palazzo Gambirasi is a former noble palace in the old town of Rome .

In 1657, the area in the immediate vicinity of the Church of Santa Maria della Pace was acquired by the merchant Donato Gambirasi from Bergamo. A palazzo was built from 1658 to 1660 based on the design by the architect Giovanni Antonio De Rossi . The property later passed into the Gambirasi family, who had the palace extensively expanded. In 1710 the property was sold to the German parish of Santa Maria dell'Anima , the seat of the German-speaking Catholic parish in Rome and a contact point for German-speaking pilgrims in the city, who rented it out.

The Caffe della Pace , a well-known gastronomic address in Rome and a well-known meeting place in Rome, opened here in 1891 . In 2016 the cafe had to close due to pressure from the owner's renovation plans; Renovation measures by the owner are planned.
