location

It is located in downtown Rome in Rione Trevi on the east side of Piazza Venezia . The building is in a prominent corner position to the south adjoining Piazza della Madonna di Loreto .

Architecture and history

The initiative for the construction of the building at the very representative location came from the director Marco Besso of the Assicurazioni Generali. Giuseppe Sacconi worked as an architect . The well-known buildings Palazzo Paracciani-Nepoti , Palazzo Frangipane-Vincenzi and Palazzo Torlonia were previously located on the site . After three years of planning, the building was approved on July 23, 1902. The property was acquired in 1903. During the foundation work, remains of an insula from the end of the 2nd / beginning of the 3rd century were found. Finds made there are still exhibited in the building today. The house was inaugurated in December 1906 on the occasion of the insurance company's 75th anniversary. The corner situation of the building is emphasized by a massive tower with a square floor plan.

The construction is related to the redesign of the Piazza Venezia from 1885. The shape and dimensions of the Palazzo delle Assicurazioni Generali correspond to the much older Palazzo Venezia on the west side of the piazza , creating a structural symmetry.
