Lists on the subject

The Palitai , also Palite , Parittei or Pattei , is a dagger from Indonesia.

description

The Palitai has a straight, double-edged blade. The blade has a central ridge and becomes narrower from the handle to the location . There are different blade versions that differ in width. The steel used to make the blades was imported from Sumatra . The booklet is made of wood and has no guard. The pommel is curved and, in some versions, carved as a rolled-up fern leaf . Other versions, such as those from Pagai , have a handle carved in the shape of a stylized bird's head. Some have carved decorations that are then filled in with a resin. The sheaths are always carved in the shape of the blade and in the local area mostly worked in the shape of a stylized bird. A tip made of horn or bone serves as the lower end. The Palitai is used by ethnic groups in the Mentawai Islands in Indonesia.
