Palmar syndrome

The Palmar syndrome is a very rare congenital disease with a symmetrical, chronic erythema of the palms and soles.

Synonyms are: disease of the red palms; Red palatine syndrome; Latin Erythema palmoplantare hereditarium; Erythema palmar hereditarium; Erythema palmo-plantare ; Maladie de v. Bechterew-Stoelzner; English Lane's Disease

The name refers to the author of the first description from 1929 by John E. Lane .

distribution

The frequency is unknown; the inheritance is autosomal dominant .

root cause

The disease is based on a disturbance of the palmo-plantar blood flow due to a dysplasia of the skin vessels with a strong increase and anastomosis of the capillaries .

Clinical manifestations

Clinical criteria are:

Chronic, extensive erythema of 4 to 10 cm in size without complaints, mainly on the heels of the hand, but also on the fingers. The palm and back of the hand are spared.

Differential diagnosis

Acquired palmar erythema must be distinguished .
