Palpifer (insect)

The palpifer (lat. Palpare = "to stroke, touch", palpus = "feeler, curry" and -fer = "to carry") is a structure on the stipes of the maxilla of the mouthparts of the insects on which the lower jaw palpus (palpus maxillaris) rests . It is formed by its own sclerite . Depending on the type and group, it can be very different or absent.
