The stipes are a section of the maxilla of the insects and belong to the mouthparts . Together with the cardo , which represents the articulation to the head, it forms the transformed coxopodite of the maxilla.

The stem element of the stipe is the telepodite , which is designed as a 4 to 5-part lower jaw palpus (palpus maxillaris) and often sits on its own structure, the palpifer . In addition, the two chewing ark are attached to the stipes , called Lacinia (inner ark) and Galea (outer ark).
