The Lake Ioannina ( Greek λίμνη Παμβώτιδα spoken limni Pamvotida ; alternative name Greek λίμνη των Ιωαννίνων spoken limni ton Ioanninon , Ioannina Lake ) is a natural lake in the region of Epirus in Greece . Its entire area is located in the Ioannina regional district on the Ioannina plain at 470 m above sea level immediately east of the city of Ioannina .

The lake has a maximum length of approx. 7.5 km and a width of 1.5 to 5 km. The mean depth is 4–5 m, the greatest depth is 11 m. The area covered by Lake Pamvotida measures 22.8 km 2 . In the northern part of the west coast of the lake is the city of Ioannina. Perama is located on the north coast of the lake . The northeast and east coast of Lake Pamvotida are bounded by the Mitsikeli and Driskos mountain ranges . The Ioannina plain continues on the south coast.

Lake Pamvotida is fed by waters from the surrounding mountains. At the mountainous borders the coasts are forested, at the flat borders there is farmland or built-up area (Ioannina).

The age of Lake Pamvotida is given as around 10,000 years.

Near the east coast of the lake is a small island called Ioannina Island . This was used by Ali Pasha as his last refuge from the Ottoman expeditionary army. He was killed there in 1822.
