Panathinaikos Athlitikos Omilos ( short form: PAO ) ( Greek : Παναθηναϊκός Αθλητικός Όμιλος listen ? / I , ΠAOAudio file / audio sample ) also refers to the no longer active baseball department of Panathinaikos Athlitikos Omilos (all-Athens sports club) from Athens . This played in the Greek Baseball League, the highest league in the country and was the last champion before they were set.

history

The baseball department of Panathinaikos Athens was founded in March 2014. Panathinaikos played his first official competitive game against Aris Thessaloniki at a meeting for the Greek club cup. Athens reached the final in the competition, but lost to city rivals Marousi in 2004 with 9-19. In the same year, the club met Marousi again in the final series of the Greek championship and was able to achieve the first title win in the club's history with 3-0 wins.

Panathinaikos played its first international game on June 15, 2015. In qualifying for the European Cup, the club was defeated by the Zurich Barracudas 7-8 in front of their home crowd . Two days later on June 17, 2015, the club achieved its first victory on an international level. Opponent was Atletico Alexandria from Romania who could clearly be beaten with 12-2.

After the Greek baseball federation ceased operations in the fall of 2015 and thus also the hosting of a national championship, Panathinaikos dissolved its baseball department in September 2015.

Venue

Panathinaikos played his home games at the Olympic Softball Stadium . With a capacity of 4,800 spectators, it is the largest ballpark in Greece. The stadium was built for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens .
