Pandemonium ( English : "chaos" or "tumult", from ancient Greek : παν pan "all" or "whole" and δαίμων daimon "divine being", see Pandemonium ) is a video game from Toys for Bob . It was released for Sony's PlayStation in 1996 . The game received very good awards from the trade press and was so commercially successful that its successor, Pandemonium 2, appeared a year later. Both parts have also been ported to other systems.

The games

Both games are jump 'n' run . The special features are as follows:

  • Graphics: Although it looks like a 3D display, the control only allows 2D paths. Part 1 relies on a fairytale setting, part 2 on psychedelic worlds.
  • Choice of character: at the beginning you choose between Nikki and the court jester Fargus. Both have different characteristics. For example, Nikki can B. perform a double somersault and thus jump higher, while Fargus use his speaking stick as a projectile.
  • Level selection: In order to select the next activated or previous level, you run with the character over a kind of map.
  • Bonus level: Upon reaching a certain number of points, the player may play a bonus level after completing a level.
  • The PC version supports 3dfx graphics cards. The game can also be installed and played without a 3dfx graphics card, but with a significantly poorer graphics quality.
