Panegiricos

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Panegiricos Genealogiarum Illustrium Principum dominorum de Anholt is a genealogy of the Princes of Anhalt by Heinrich Basse from 1519.

Origin and content

The script was written on behalf of Bishop Adolf von Anhalt (or Prince Rudolf von Anhalt?) By the prior of the Ballenstedt Monastery, Hinricus Basse. It depicts the history of the Princes of Anhalt since their beginnings. The script used medieval chronicles, but added further details that were intended to improve the reputation of the princes and whose historicity cannot be determined. It is the first early modern history of Anhalt.

Copies

The Panegyricus appeared as a print in Leipzig in 1519 and a few copies have been preserved. There is a manuscript in the Thuringian University and State Library in Jena. Johann Christoph Beckmann printed the text in 1716 in the Accessiones historiae Anhaltinae .
