Panic and Agoraphobia Scale

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Panic and Agoraphobia Scale ( PAS ) is a third-party assessment questionnaire for assessing the severity of panic disorders or agoraphobia . The questionnaire was written by B. Bandelow in 1997. An international version was published in 1999 under the title Panic and Agoraphobia Scale. It consists of 13 questions with a five-level answer option. The following 5 scales are formed from the answers:

  • Panic attacks
  • agoraphobic avoidance
  • anticipatory fear
  • Limitations (family, partnership, social and leisure activities)
  • and health concerns

There is an additional question as to whether the panic attacks are expected or unexpected. An overall score is taken to determine the severity of the disease. For each component, 2 or 3 questions contribute to the total value. The processing time is estimated at 15 minutes, or 5–10 minutes for external assessments and 5–20 minutes for self-assessment. The questionnaire is available for self-assessment and for third-party assessment, with both correlating with r = .90. The questionnaire is used from the age of 15. A maximum of 52 can be achieved. The third-party version has a mean of 23.6 and a standard deviation of 10.6. The self-rated version has a mean of 23.5 and a standard deviation of 10.3.
