Pantai Tanjung Lesung ( English Tanjung Lesung Beach , German  Strand von Kap Lesung ) is a beach on the western tip of the Indonesian island of Java .

geography

Pantai Tanjung Lesung is located about 160 kilometers from the capital Jakarta .

Contrary to its name, the beach is on Cape Badur (Tanjung Badur) , west of Cape Lesung . The two capes form the northern tip of the Tanjungjaya peninsula in the northwest of the Panimbang district ( Pandeglang administrative district , Banten province ), which protrudes prominently into the Sunda Strait . Across the road is the island of Sumatra . The beach is about 15 kilometers long and a well-known tourist destination with several hotels.

history

The beach where the concert took place after the tsunami

Tanjung Lesung was established by the Indonesian government in 2012 as a special economic zone (SEZ) in the tourism sector.

On December 22, 2018, Tanjung Lesung was hit by a tsunami that was triggered by the eruption of Anak Krakatau and an underwater landslide. At that time, the Indonesian boy band Seventeen was giving a concert on the beach. A cell phone video documented the moment when the wave crashed onto the stage from behind and then over the audience. Several band members and family members are among the more than one hundred dead in the department.
