Paolo Paschetto

Paolo Antonio Paschetto (born February 12, 1885 in Torre Pellice , † March 9, 1963 in Turin ) was an Italian painter . He was a member of the Waldensian Protestant Church . Paschetto attended the Institute of Fine Arts in Rome and was professor of design there from 1914 to 1948. From 1921 to 1945 Paschetto drew postage stamps .

In 1947 Paolo Paschetto won the competition for a new coat of arms for Italy . On January 31, 1948, his draft was approved by the Constituent Assembly . The corresponding decree No. 535 was signed by President Enrico De Nicola on May 5, 1948. With this, Paschetto prevailed in two competitions against around 500 competitors. Elements of his emblem are a star, the so-called Stella d'Italia , a gear, an oak and an olive branch.
