Papadiamantis Museum

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Papadiamantis Museum ( Greek Μουσείο Παπαδιαμάντη , Mousio Papadiamanti ) is a historic house in the port city of Skiathos on the Sporades island of the same name in Greece . The house is set up as a museum and shows the home of Alexandros Papadiamantis (1851–1911). After his death the house was converted into a museum.

The house where he was born was demolished and the father, Adamantios Papadiamantis, erected the two-story building in 1860, which can still be seen today. The house is a typical island house in the style of the time and region. On the lower floor there is a simple room with a fountain, on the upper floor there are three rooms and a "summer kitchen" with a separate entrance from the outside. In the “winter room”, in which Papadiamantis also died, is the historic fireplace. There are still a few pieces of crockery from the poet's household items. There are no chairs, as people used to eat and work cross-legged. In the other rooms of the house an exhibition on the poet's works is presented.
