Parrot mast

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The parrot mast is a small mizzen mast that is used on lightships .

function

The parrot mast, also known as the parrot stick, is located approximately in the middle of the ship (aft) and serves as a holder for the sailors to keep an eye out. In principle, it is a boom that protrudes over the railing and thus enables a view of the wake.

The sheet of the mizzen sail is usually attached to the parrot mast . In addition, the parrot mast was suitable when attacking ships for damaging and boarding the enemy ship, provided that it is within the appropriate range.
