Papius is a Roman gentile name of an originally Samnite family from Lanuvium .

  • Gaius Papius: Tribune of the people 65 BC BC, named after him the lex Papia .
  • Gaius Papius Celsus: in Lanuvium , father of Titus Annius Milo
  • Gaius Papius Mutilus , Samnite, one of the Italian consuls in the alliance war, defeated by Sulla in 89 BC. BC and 82 before Rome, killed himself (Livy epitome 89).
  • Lucius Papius: on numerous coins, mint master approx. 78–76 BC. Chr.
  • Marcus Papius Mutilus : consul suffectus with Quintus Poppaeus Secundus on July 1, 9 AD, co-contributor of the lex Papia Poppaea
  • Papius: approx. 80 BC Chr., Initiator of a lex papia for the election of the Vestal Virgins (Gellius 1,12,11f.)
  • Papius Brutulus: Samnite, convicted for breaking the truce, killed himself in 322 BC In order not to be handed over to the Romans (Livy 8:39).
