from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Papyrus Palau-Ribes 163 (No. 869 according to Rahlfs) is a fragment of a papyrus code from the 3rd or 4th century. It is 4.7 × 3.8 cm in size and contains parts from the book of Esters 4, 4–5, 8–11 in the Greek language ( Septuagint ). It is the oldest surviving evidence of this passage in the Greek language. The text is written in one column in a clumsy book font with italic elements.

The location is unknown. The fragment was acquired by José O'Callaghan in the 1960s or 1970s and kept in the Papyrology Department of the Theological Faculty in Sant Cugat del Vallès . After the seminary was dissolved in 1983, it remained with José O'Callaghan until his death in 2001. Since then it has been in the Historical Archives of the Jesuits of Catalonia (Arxiu Històric de la Companyia de Jesús a Catalunya) in Barcelona under the inventory number Palau-Ribes 163 .
