Paradise Theater (Bronx)
The Paradise Theater , formerly Loew's Paradise Theater , is an event center and former large-scale cinema, which is located in the New York borough of Bronx and has the address 2413 Grad Concourse.
The Filmpalast opened on September 7, 1929. It was supposed to be part of the Paramount Pictures chain , but was taken over by Loew's Theaters shortly before construction began . The architect was John Eberson , whose cinemas were famous for their illusionistic effects, such as the electric starry sky. In the post-war years, the large cinema designed as a Venetian castle courtyard experienced a gradual decline. Many decorative elements were lost, the great hall was divided into four parts. The cinema closed in 1994 and lay fallow for six years. In 1997 it was as a New York landmark under monument protection placed and restored in the sequence. In October 2005 it was reopened as a stage for live events and currently serves primarily as a concert hall for pop, soul and jazz concerts.
