Paradise with an Ocean View is the eighth album that Country Joe McDonald released under his own name. It was released in 1975 and ranked 124 on the Billboard 200, and the single Breakfast for Two reached number 92 on the Billboard 100. The album received 2 out of 5 stars on Allmusic.
It is the first album from Fantasy Records. The recordings took place in the Fantasy Studio in Berkeley, the hometown of McDonald. The album was produced more elaborately than the previous ones with a background choir and string and brass groups.
In terms of content, the album is the beginning of McDonald’s increased ecological orientation. The piece Save the Whales! is dedicated to the Canadian environmental protection group Greenpeace , which was founded a few years earlier , and topics that are dedicated to environmental protection can still be found on the McDonald's homepage.
