Parametric fluorescence

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under parametric fluorescence (engl. Spontaneous parametric down-conversion , SPDC ) is the conversion of a photon to two secondary photons in a nonlinear optical crystal . The wavelengths or the frequencies of the resulting signal and idler photons are linked to the pump photon due to the conservation of energy . Parametric fluorescence is the physical process that underlies optical parametric generation and amplification. It is a quantum effect that results from the so-called quantum noise and - in contrast to parametric amplification - also takes place without the coupling of a signal or idler beam. Compared to the increased spontaneous emission , the phase matching condition must be met for the signal and idler photons .
