Park Keum Chul

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Park Keum Chul (*?, † 1967 (?)) Was one of the most influential politicians in North Korea in the 1960s and the second most powerful functionary (after Kim Il Sung ) of the ruling party there ( Korean Workers' Party ). In 1967 he and other high-ranking officials whom Kim saw as an obstacle to his path to sole rule were accused by the latter of acting against party interests. Park was a member of the so-called Kapsan faction , a group within the ruling party. Ultimately, Kim prevailed and carried out an extensive political cleansing operation that cemented his position. Park disappeared in 1967, Kim then turned away from the People's Republic of China and towards the Soviet Union (see also Sino-Soviet rift ).
