In air traffic, a parking position is the place where an aircraft is parked on the ground.

The parking position at commercial airports can be both a passenger bridge at the terminal and an outside position . Passengers in an aircraft must remain buckled up until the final parking position is reached, the engines are switched off, and the seatbelt signs above the passenger's seats have gone out. Immediately after arrival, the undercarriage is secured against rolling away. Only then will the cabin crew open the doors.

Parking position at the gate

A parking position at the gate directly at the terminal is more convenient for passengers when disembarking, and the distances to baggage claim are sometimes shorter. A hydraulically moved, accessible hose, the so-called passenger boarding bridge , is initially docked before the aircraft door is opened.

Outside parking position

When parking in an outside position, the trolleys are first secured against rolling away after the stop. Mobile passenger stairs are maneuvered to get off the aircraft. Then the ground staff member will knock on the cabin door from outside, this is the sign for the cabin crew that everything is ready for the passengers to disembark.

Due to the fact that non- employees are not allowed to enter the apron, it is necessary to be picked up by shuttle bus service - in the case of small planes with taxis to the reception building of a commercial airport or from the apron of an airport . This service is included in the cost of the flight ticket for the passengers.
