Parliamentary elections in Anglo-Egyptian Sudan 1953
Parliamentary elections in Anglo-Egyptian Sudan were held in 1953 before independence from the Kingdom of Egypt was established.
The result was a clear and unambiguous victory for the National Unionist Party (NUP), which won 50 of the 97 seats in the Sudanese parliament and 21 of the 30 elected seats in the Senate . Another 20 members were nominated for the Senate, of which the NUP assigned 10. Although the Ummah Party and some British media alleged that Egypt was trying to influence the outcome of the elections, the election was generally seen as free and fair.
