The Council of the States of South Sudan ( English Council of States ) in Juba was 1 August 2011 by a decree of the South Sudanese President Salva Kiir established.

The council consists of 50 members, 45 of whom belong to the ruling party of the Sudanese People's Liberation Movement (SPLM), and has the power to pass laws that affect the interests of the states of South Sudan .

As the upper house, it is one of the two chambers that make up the bicameral parliament of South Sudan ( National Legislature ). The House of Commons is the National Legislative Assembly . The Council of States is located in the ministry complex of the capital Juba.
