The Senate ( Spanish Senado ) is the upper house of the Parliament of Equatorial Guinea . The Senate consists of 70 MPs, 15 of which are appointed by the President and 55 are elected by the population.

history

The Senate was established in 2011 under Article 70 of the Equatorial Guinea Constitution . It exists alongside the second chamber, the Cámara de Representantes del Pueblo , which already exercised legislative power before the Senate. On July 12, 2012, both chambers were officially opened by President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo .

elections

In the elections in 2013, three parties ran for election, but only two could prevail. The winner of the election was the Partido Democrático de Guinea Ecuatorial , which also dominates the House of Representatives with 99 out of 100 seats.
