The Castle

The Legislative Council of St. Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha ( English Legislative Council ) is the parliament in the unicameral system of the British overseas territory of St. Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha . The council, as well as the executive (English Executive Council ) has its seat in The Castle in the capital Jamestown .

The legislative council is also the parliament of the island of St. Helena . With the Island Council of Ascension and the Island Council of Tristan da Cunha , the two other equal parts of the overseas territory, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha, also have their own parliaments.

The last election took place on July 26, 2017 .

The Parliament consists of 12 members elected every four years and three ex officio members appointed by the governor . These take on the positions of Chief Secretary, Financial Secretary and Attorney General . There is also a speaker of parliament and his deputy, since August 2, 2017 Eric Benjamin and John Cranfield respectively.
