  • The National Legislative Assembly ( English National Legislative Assembly ), since 2011 the National Assembly of the Republic of South Sudan , is the lower house in the bicameral system of the national legislature of South Sudan . It is based in the capital Juba .

    The 170 members of the National Legislative Assembly were elected in the parliamentary elections in 2010 before independence , supplemented in 2011 by 96 former members from the joint parliament with Northern Sudan, as well as 66 persons appointed directly by the President. As of 2011, the National Assembly therefore has a total of 332 people. The legislation of South Sudan is supplemented by the 50-member Council of States .

    The parliamentarians have been meeting at times since 2011 in the Juba ministry complex.

    The Speaker of Parliament is James Wani Igga , the Vice Speaker is Daniel Awet Akot. Opposition: Onyoti Adigo Nyikwac from the SPLM-DC (Congress Party).

    The Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly (SSLA) was based on Art. 57 (1) of the Interim Constitution of South Sudan in 2005, which was part of the Naivasha Agreement . The parliament in the young state of South Sudan was established by Presidential Decree No. 10/2011 . The additional presidential appointments in 2011 were made on the basis of Article 94 (2) (B).
