List of governors of St. Helena
The governor of St. Helena and dependencies has been the governor of St. Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha since the new constitution was introduced in 2009 .
Since 1657 monitored Governors ( English Governor ) on St. Helena . Before the governors of the British crown, the governors were placed by the East India Company and two by Dutch conquerors.
Lisa Phillips was appointed governor in 2016. She is the first female incumbent in 359-year history. Since 2004, the governor no longer wears the governor's uniform on inaugurations and other important occasions.
1659 to 1836
The governors between 1659 and January 1, 1673 and from May 15, 1673 to February 24, 1836 belonged to the East India Company . Between January 1, 1673 and May 15, 1673 these were provided by the Dutch occupying forces .

Since 1836
With the India Act 1833 , the British Parliament decided in 1833 to transfer control of the island of St. Helena from the East India Company to the British Crown. The law came into effect on April 3, 1834, but in practice the transition would last until February 24, 1836, the day when the first appointed governor of St. Helena, George Middlemore, with his 91st Regiment of Foot set foot on the Bottom of the island set.
