Charles George Edward Patey
Charles George Edward Patey CMG (born February 27, 1811 in Chivelstone , Devon , † 1881 Newton St. Loe ) was an admiral in the British Royal Navy .
Life
As the eldest son of Navy Commander Charles Patey, he followed his father into the Navy at the age of 13 and went through every assigned military rank until he was finally appointed Admiral of the Royal Navy.
In addition to his notable naval career, Admiral Patey was also the British governor of Lagos and Gambia (1866–1869) and governor of St. Helena (1869–1873). In recognition of his services, he became Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George in 1874 .
Admiral Patey died in Newton St. Loe, a small village near Bath, in 1881 .
