Parma is a genus of damselfish (Pomacentridae). It is closely related to the Garibaldi fish ( Hypsypops rubicundus ) of the California coast .
distribution
The fish live in the rocky reefs of the cool waters in southern Australia , Tasmania , northern New Zealand , Lord Howe Island , Norfolk Island and New Caledonia , where they feed on algae growth.
Appearance
They are high-backed, 15 to 29 centimeters long, mostly monochrome dark fish. Their fins have scales from the base to the middle, a feature that is unique to damselfish. The juvenile fish have a much more colorful coloring than the adult fish.

Parma species are very old for fish. Investigations of the ear stones of male specimens revealed an age of 150 years. Damselfish that live in tropical waters live an average of 10 years.
