The Parnassus Tower, May 2017

The Parnass Tower (also Parnass Tower ) is an observation tower in Plön ( Schleswig-Holstein ), the same time as a war memorial serves. It stands on the top of the Parnassus hill , a terminal moraine .

Building description

The tower consists of a single-storey plinth in brick masonry and an uncovered steel framework tower built on it with a staircase and a viewing platform at a height of 20 m, ie 85 m above sea level. The tower was built in 1888 by the Plön Beautification Association.

In 1975 the tower was closed for security reasons. After a true-to-factory renovation by the state of Schleswig-Holstein and the city of Plön, it was reopened to the public on July 5, 1985.

Depending on the weather, the Parnassel observation tower is usually open from Easter to the end of October daily from 9:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Entry is free. Plön and the surrounding lake landscape can be overlooked from the tower's viewing platform.

memorial

On the south side of the tower base there is a memorial for those who fell in the wars from 1848 to 1851 and 1870 to 1871. There are three flat, arched niches with:
