Party Congress of the CDU Germany 2018 (February)

The 30th party conference of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany was held on February 26, 2018 in the event center STATION Berlin in the federal capital Berlin . On the agenda of the special party conference were the resolution on the coalition agreement between the CDU, CSU and SPD and the election of a new general secretary for the party.

Resolutions and personalities

The coalition agreement previously negotiated with the CSU and SPD entitled “A new departure for Europe - a new dynamic for Germany - a new cohesion for our country” was accepted by the 975 delegates with 27 votes against. After Peter Tauber announced his retirement from the office of CDU General Secretary a few days before the party congress , a new election for this office became necessary. At the suggestion of the Federal Chairwoman Angela Merkel , the previous Prime Minister of the Saarland, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer , was elected as the new Secretary General with 98.87 percent of the delegate's votes.
