Party of Unity and Progress

The Party of Unity and Progress ( French Parti de l'Unité et du Progrès , abbreviation PUP) is a political party in Guinea . It was the ruling party during the long reign of former President Lansana Conté .

In the parliamentary election held on June 30, 2002 , the party won 61.57% of the vote and a total of 85 of the 114 seats in the National Assembly . Your candidate in the presidential election of December 21, 2003 , Lansana Conté, won 95.25% of the vote; however, this election was generally boycotted by the opposition.

After Conté's death on December 22, 2008, the military immediately took power and ended the authoritarian rule of the PUP. The party's power was restricted after the coup. She nominated Aboubacar Somparé , a prominent figure in the Conté regime, as her candidate for the presidential election in June 2010 , but received just over 1% of the vote.
