Participatory Culture Foundation

The Participatory Culture Foundation ( PCF ) is a (under US law) non-profit organization . This deals with the provision of tools and services such as software and websites for the production and distribution of software. The primary project is the development of the Miro Media Player , a free internet television platform and Amara (video software) .

It was founded in February 2005; Forerunner was the organization founded in 2003 called Downhill Battle . The organization is based in Worcester, Massachusetts . It was funded by the Rappaport Family Foundation, the Open Source Applications Foundation , the Surdna Foundation, the Knight Foundation and other private donors. The Mozilla Foundation also announced on May 29, 2007 that it would make a donation for the PCF's free video software projects. It has nine full-time employees.

The PCF is a co-founding organization of the Open Video Alliance , a coalition to promote the free availability of tools, open standards and the like for video processing, which runs a campaign to enrich Wikipedia with video material.
