The party abbreviated to PRONA saw itself as a party critical of the system and turned against globalization. The party was strongly patriotic and nationalistic. During an election campaign, the party demanded, among other things, that Brazil should receive nuclear weapons.

history

PRONA was founded on July 29, 1985 and four years later it ran for the first time in national elections. The former chairman of the party, Enéas Ferreira Carneiro , stood as a candidate in 1989, 1994 and most recently in 1998 for the office of the Brazilian president . In the elections in October 2002 , Carneiro ran for the National Congress in the state of São Paulo and received more than 1.57 million votes, so that just because of this number of votes, another five candidates moved into the Chamber of Deputies with him . In total, the party received 1.6 million votes in the elections.

On October 24th, 2006 PRONA merged with the Partido Liberal (PL) to form the Partido da República (PR).
