Partito Socialista Unitario (1922-1930)

history

The first of these parties was founded by the reformist wing of the Partito Socialista Italiano (PSI) ("Italian Socialist Party") as early as October 1922, after it was founded on October 1, 1922 at the instigation of the majority who wanted to adhere to a Marxist-revolutionary course. had been expelled from the party. On June 10, 1924, Giacomo Matteotti was murdered by the fascist militias after he had pointed out numerous irregularities in parliament that had occurred in the election of April 6, 1924 and were the responsibility of the militias. When the king did not react to these events, the Partito Socialista Unitario was one of those parties that left parliament in protest on July 27, 1924 ( secessione aventiniana ). This was done with the intention of forcing the king to act, to have Mussolini arrested and to call new elections. When the king did not react, this step proved to be a mistake. On January 3, 1925, Mussolini took advantage of his absence to take responsibility for all the crimes of the past years and to announce that he would now create order. With his way of creating order, Mussolini finally abandoned the parliamentary path. In November 1925, the party was banned, but re-established underground as the “Partito Socialista dei Lavoratori Italiani” (PSLI) (“Socialist Party of Italian Workers”). In 1927 it adopted the name "Partito Socialista Unitario dei Lavoratori Italiani" (PSULI) ("Socialist Unity Party of Italian Workers"). In July 1930 they reunited with the Partito Socialista Italiano (PSI).
